The United Nations Academic Impact - Iwate Prefectural University's Initiatives

Membership in the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI)

Iwate Prefectural University joined the United Nations Academic Impact in May 2019.

The UNAI is a program in which universities work together to promote social engagement and to coordinate the activities of the United Nations and other higher educational institutions around the world. The various initiatives related to the UNAI have been developed in each of the Iwate Prefectural University faculties and resulted in this membership.

What is the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI)?

  • The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) was launched on November 18, 2010. The program is designed to bring together the activities of the United Nations and other higher educational institutions in the world, while advancing social engagement. The United Nations Department of Global Communications is taking initiative in building a network which is now joined by over 1,300 institutions from over 135 countries as of June 2019.
  • In Japan, activities are organized under the United Nations Academic Impact Japan with participation from several universities in Japan (69 institutions including us have membership as of June 2019).
  • Members must be committed to at least one of the ten UNAI principles and are expected to engage in activities to pursue the principles.
