For Iwate Prefectural University to Contribute to the Local Area

In Academic Year 2008, Research and Regional Cooperation Headquarters acted as the main body for community contribution activities. To nurture the talent and the community that will open the door to the future of Iwate, many efforts, such as establishment of liaisons with industries, community contribution, and promotion of research, were made.

For establishment of liaisons with industries, many results were achieved, such as the construction of the Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center , and the largest number of joint research in the school history. As for contribution to the local area, we had 3,188 people participate in open lectures; as well as education programs for working adults. Efforts such as the establishment of the “IPU Community Planning Plaza” and the “Open Research on Community Issues” were also made. We will continue to contribute to and be an integral part of the community through various activities.

Liaison Between the University, Industries, and the Government: Promotion of Local Industries and Obtaining of Outside Funding

To promote the school's IT industry integration scheme, efforts, such as obtaining four IT companies as tenants for the Regional Cooperative Research Center, and the construction plan for the Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center, were made. Furthermore, significant results were achieved in various areas, such as promotion of joint research, support for obtaining of outside research funding, and creation and management of intellectual property, as specified below.

Joint Research, etc.

There were 89 joint research, commissioned research, and grants awarded, marking an all-time high in the school history. In particular, there were 61 joint research, also marking an all-time high, reflecting the success of the joint effort by the university, industries, and the government.

Support for Obtaining of Outside Research Funding

A variety of support was provided for obtaining of outside research funding, such as on-campus information sessions and help on application for government subsidy funding for scientific research, JST research projects, and SCOPE projects of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Creation, Management, and Use of Intellectual Property

Efforts are being made to promote creation, management, and use of intellectual property, such as seminars on intellectual property, in liaison with the Iwate Intellectual Property Rights Center and the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation Iwate Branch; and on-campus consultations on inventions by patent lawyers. As a result, 3 invention registration applications were submitted in Academic Year 2008, all of which were approved as inventions (or patents/copyrights) belonging to the corporation, and for which 3 patents were applied.

Contribution to the Local Area: Furtherance of Exchanges with the People of Iwate Through Education Programs for Working Adults, etc.

Iwate Prefectural University hopes to contribute to the community by making use of its intellectual property, through efforts such as cooperating with local authorities, holding open lectures, and promoting open research on community issues.

Promotion of the “Open Research on Community Issues”

For the new round of application invitations in Academic Year 2007, revisions were made to facilitate the realization of large-scale paid joint research. Out of 25 applications, 16 were selected.
