For Iwate Prefectural University to Contribute to the Community

In academic year 2007, Research and Regional Cooperation Headquarters acted as the main body for contribution for the local area activities.  To nurture the talent and the community that will open the door to the future of Iwate, many efforts, such as establishment of liaisons with industries, contribution for the local area, and promotion of researches, were made.

For establishment of liaisons with industries, many results were achieved, such as the decision to construct the Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center (tentatively named), and the largest number of joint research in the school history.  For contribution for the local area,    many efforts were made, such as the establishment of the Community Planning Institute, and the promotion of open research on community issues.  For promotion of researches, as the final year of the Whole-University Project Research, we are preparing to return the benefits of the researches to the community.

We will continue to contribute to and be an integral part of the community.

Liaison Between the University, Industries, and the Government: Promotion of Local Industries and Obtainment of Outside Funding

To promote the school's IT industry integration scheme, efforts, such as obtaining four IT companies as tenants for the Regional Cooperative Research Center, and the construction plan for the Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center (tentatively named), were made.  Furthermore, significant results were achieved in various areas, such as promotion of joint research, support for obtaining of outside research funding, and creation and management of intellectual property, as specified below.

Joint research, etc.

There were 82 joint research, commissioned research, and grants awarded, marking an all-time high in the school history.  In particular, the number and the yen amount of joint research more than doubled since the previous year, reflecting the success of the joint effort by the university, industries, and the government. 

Support for Obtaining of Outside Research Funding

A variety of support was provided for obtainment of outside research funding, such as on-campus information sessions and help on application for government subsidy funding for scientific research, JST research projects, and SCOPE projects of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. As a result of such efforts, the university was ranked 15th nationwide in the first-time obtainment rate of the 2008 government subsidy funding for scientific research.

Creation, Management, and Use of Intellectual Property

Efforts are being made to promote creation, management, and use of intellectual property, such as seminars on intellectual property, in liaison with the Iwate Intellectual Property Rights Center and the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation Iwate Branch; and on-campus consultations on inventions by patent lawyers. As a result, 11 invention registration applications were submitted in academic year 2007, all of which were approved as inventions (or patents/copyrights) belonging to the corporation, and for 10 of which patents were applied.

Featured Topic 1 New Possibilities for IPU: Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center (tentatively named)

The Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center (tentatively named), scheduled to open in the spring of 2009, provides leased laboratory spaces for software development and IT system companies. By collaborating with local organizations, it aims to create new businesses and employment, solve technical issues that existing businesses face, and support research and development, in hopes of further contributing to the community.
