Iwate Prefectural University has sent 7 graduating classes into the world since the opening of the school 10 years ago. From the 4th graduating class, the rate of students seeking employment in Iwate has remained low, in the 30% range; the school faces a challenge to encourage students to stay in Iwate to provide talent that will become the driving force of Iwate's future. The low percentage may be attributed to the gap between the Tokyo area, which experienced an improved economy since 2005 and an increased job market due to the baby boomers' retirement, and Iwate, slow to benefit from such economic recovery.
Even under such conditions, Iwate Prefectural University strives to strengthen the network with vigorous companies in the area and encourage students to find employment in Iwate, by hosting lectures by business owners, job fairs, and planning visits to companies and factories.
