IPU Academic Year 2008 Contribution to the Local Area. Output of Intellectual Resources to the Local Area as a Prefectural University

As it celebrated its 10th anniversary, Iwate Prefectural University has made a transition from its “formative period” to the next stage of “contributing to the local area.” The following are some of the efforts we have made as a prefectural university which aim for development with the local area to become a base for the regional cooperation of northern Tohoku.

Opening of the Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center

On May 1, 2009, the Takizawa Village IPU Innovation Center opened on the premises of the Regional Cooperative Research Center. This facility was built for the purpose of attracting IT companies from inside and outside Iwate and bringing them close to the university, with human resource development and research and development functions in mind. Five companies will be occupying the facility so far; it is expected to become a hub of embedded software, IT, and system related industries in the greater Morioka area.

Opening of the IPU Community Planning Plaza

In August 2008, on the occasion of the university's 10th anniversary, the IPU Community Planning Plaza was opened in the Regional Cooperative Research Center as a place of exchange with a think-tank function, to meet the needs of strengthening the think-tank function relevant to community planning. As a survey and research division, the Public Policies Institute was newly established within the existing project institute, the Community Planning Institute

Making use of the already-established network with municipalities and research grounds, we will promote further contribution to the local area by unifying and centralizing the reference regarding community planning.
